Spring!
I cannot hardly wait until Spring rolls around. The new growth on trees and flowers, birds chirping, and of course the occasional bear walking though your neighborhood.
My mom was an avid backyard gardener. We were Italian so we had a second generation fig treat and all the tomato's you could eat. Sadly I was not a large fan of Delaware tomato's growing up and I fed them to the cows on the farm in my backyard so I did not have to eat them!
I have come full circle and now I garden, albeit only plants I can eat !
Let check out some amazing activities right here in Asheville that will help your family boast those creative outdoor gardening buds!
- The garden has plenty of classes and activities for kids such as one our five INVESTIGATION PASSPORTS, which focus on animals, birds, insects, nature words, and, of course, PLANTS!
- The edible maps lists locations to explore community gardens and harvest apples, serviceberries, and all sorts of healthy foods. My favorite is walking down Haywood Rd in West Asheville and eating serviceberries every step of the way!
- Bountiful Cities dedicated to teaching sustainable agriculture skills and sharing resources to promote social justice, economic viability, and community resilience. Volunteer at a local garden or school based garden
- The North Carolina Arboretum offers acres of cultivated gardens and miles of trails featuring some of the most beautiful, botanically-diverse plants in the region.
